A walk in the woods.

Sorry I haven't posted much lately. I've been up to my eyeballs in school.
Here are a few pics from a walk I took in the Dandelong National Park, about one hour outside of Melbourne. It's one of the few large parks that is accessible by train so I'm going to be all over it for the next year.
I was SOOO happy to get out of the city and actually soak up the sounds, smells and sights of the woods.

This is your typical temporate rain forest. No, that isn't a palm tree to the left, it's a fern!!! They are huge here.

Huge fargin' tree with a huge fargin' hole!!

Lunch time! Uh ohh, What's this? I'm being surrounded!!!

"Trailmix!!! Ok, I don't think he notices me. Now if I can just get a little closer."

"Grapes?!! HEY!! Where did the trailmix go?!!"

"Ok, I think I need to take a different approach. Hey there buddy. What's for lunch?"

There are a lot of gum trees around thees parts. They are freakin' tall, very straight and make for cool pictures like this one.

Nothing says "relax" like horses grazing on a beautiful day.

Ok, that's it for now. I'll be in touch again soon.

..life is short...

Our friend Hamish Malcolm had a heart attack last week. He was in a coma for a few days before they realized he was not going to make it. They took him off life support and we attended his funeral on Monday. He was only 25 years old!

Hamish's birthday would have been on Tuesday Nov. 1st so we had a get-together at our place to talk about him and exchange stories. People showed up from every facet of his life here in Melbourne (The Political Interest Society, The Debating Club, his Parkour buddies (http://www.parkour.com/), school friends, his roommates and all of us that knew him through Ali).

Hamish was an extremely bright and witty guy and seemed to excel at everything he did. I didn't know him as well as I would have liked but I sure learned a lot about him in the last week. He will be missed.

I just found a quote that seems to fit him perfectly. "When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." - George Washington Carver. He was still working on the world thing but he definitely had a unique approach to evrything he did.

Here is a link to an article paying tribute to Hamish in his home county's paper.
